Washing and Product care guide

Caring for technical clothing is not as difficult as you may think, and by washing them correctly, you can substantially prolong the lifespan of your apparel. This enables you to take your favourite garments on many more golf adventures while simultaneously minimising your overall environmental footprint. What more could one desire?

Product Care and sustainability

A significant aspect of a textile product's overall environmental impact is tied to how long you can use it for,  how well you care for it, and what you decide to do with it once it is worn out. Opting for clothing with lasting quality and timeless design is a good beginning. Additionally, the manner in which you care for your garments holds substantial importance—not only for environmental reasons but also for the optimal performance and longevity of your products.

Numerous eco-certified detergents and laundry liquids are available that minimise the environmental impact of washing. The primary factor influencing energy, water, and detergent consumption is the capacity utilisation of washing machines and dryers. We have outlined our best practices and advice of how to best care for your Älskar Golf garments while simultaneously caring for the environment.

Laundry advice

Limit the use of fabric softener. It adversely affect both the performance of garments and the environment. Fabric softeners leave a residue on garment fibers, impacting moisture transport and breathability. Some components in fabric softeners are resistant to natural decomposition, posing a threat to water-dwelling organisms.

Ensure zippers are zipped up and velcro closures are secured before washing to reduce the risk of fabrics catching on sharp edges and developing pills. Using a washing bag provides protection, preventing tearing or stretching of fabrics in the washing machine. Additionally, it helps contain microfiber leakage during the washing process, contributing to the prevention of microplastics entering rivers and oceans.

Try airing your clothes out

Often, we tend to overwash our clothes. If clothing isn't heavily soiled, consider airing it out instead. Fresh air benefits both people and garments. Interestingly, it's noted that we dedicate more time to laundry today than in the 1940s when washing machines were a rarity.

To summarise

  • Opt for airing clothes instead of washing to conserve water, energy, and extend garment longevity.
  • Employ a washing bag to shield your garments and prevent fiber leakage. When cleaning the bag and filter, ensure a thorough wipe and dispose of lint in the trash, avoiding rinsing in water to prevent fiber release into lakes or oceans.
  • Machine wash in cold water using environmentally certified detergents, and adhere to recommended doses.
  • Steer clear of fabric softeners as they harm the environment and compromise the performance of functional clothing.
  • Skip the tumble dryer, as it subjects both the garment and the environment to unnecessary wear and tear; polyester items typically dry rapidly. Instead, opt for air drying by hanging garments.
